Mr. Sherman grew up during the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War protests, and his childhood in Pittsburgh saw many factories shutting down and having an adverse effect on factory workers and families. He decided to pursue a career in securing and protecting the rights of workers, and in a long career has won numerous landmark cases for migrant and seasonal workers as well as employees, unions and non-profit organizations. Mr. Sherman’s private practice has won a series of labor cases that broadened the rights of federal labor unions to bargain over work practices and pay, along with numerous arbitration awards and court opinions upholding the rights of employees and unions. He is the recipient of an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, and has appeared in Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, and Who’s Who in the World.

Following his childhood in Pittsburgh, Mr. Sherman earned a BA in political science, magna cum laude, from the University of Pittsburgh, followed by a JD from the School of Law at the University of Michigan in 1966 with special recognition in the field of labor law. He served as an appellate attorney of the National Labor Relations Board, and became executive director of the Migrant Legal Action Program Inc. in 1970. Mr. Sherman was a partner of Lictman, Abeles, Anker, and Nagle PC from 1975 to 1977, and worked in the private sector for several different firms. He ran a private practice through many of those years, and he has maintained his current office since 2007.

Mr. Sherman has been an active member of numerous organizations, serving the D.C. Bar as a member of the labor and employment law section in the ‘80s. He has also taught as an adjunct professor of the George Meany Center for Labor Studies, and was the principal for Managing Human Resources for the 21st Century. Mr. Sherman is admitted to practice with the U.S. District Court in the District of Columbia, and the District of Maryland, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, the Fourth Circuit, and the Federal Circuit.
