Thomas W. Hyland, Partner at Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker, LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Trial Law.

Mr. Hyland has been a partner of his firm since 1977, and has been a respected instructor with the University of Houston Law Center, Hunter College, and the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University. He has succeeded because of his early service in the U.S. Army, where he earned the rank of captain and 12 decorations for service, including one for a wound. Being named as a 1965 Distinguished Military Graduate of Fordham College at Rose Hill was one of his greatest achievements, as well as his inclusion in the Fordham University Military and NYC Army Reserve Officer Corps Hall of Fame, presented in a special veterans mass at the university church in 2017.

A recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, Mr. Hyland has appeared in two volumes of Who’s Who in American Law and the 48th edition of Who’s Who in America. He earned a JD from Fordham University in 1971, and further matriculated at New York University to earn a LLM in 1975. Between those years, Mr. Hyland was an assistant district attorney of New York City, and later became chief trial counsel of the New York regional office of the Securities and Exchange Commission. He still lectures extensively throughout the country on professional liability, and co-authored a definitive report on the financial collapse of New York City.

Mr. Hyland is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and an AV Preeminent attorney rated by Martindale-Hubbell. He was named to the New York Super Lawyers in the professional liability: defense category from 2008 to 2017, and to the Irish Legal 100 in the Irish Voice from 2011 to 2012. Mr. Hyland has supported numerous legal societies, including the Association of the Bar of the City of New York Lawyers’ Liability Review and the Federal Bar Council. He was also presented with a 2007 Child of Peace Award from the Catholic Guardian Society, and in the course of his job once stayed on the island of Guam for seven months in the service of a client in London.
