Over the course of his 50-year career, Mr. Roth has established himself as a leading member of the legal profession. Since its founding in 1969, Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP has grown into a large, highly esteemed firm, which Mr. Roth considers to be the greatest achievement of his career. Currently, he serves as the chairman of the investment management group at the firm, and in addition he leverages his knowledge and experience as a legal educator.
Since 2013, Mr. Roth has held the position of an adjunct professor of law and management of financial services businesses at the New York University School of Law, and since 2017, he has worked as a lecturer of ethics at the University of Miami. He is a pioneer of the structures and legal issues surrounding the hedge fund industry, and excels in numerous practice areas, including mergers and acquisitions, securities, capital markets and private equity.
In preparation for his career, Mr. Roth attended Harvard University, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in 1961 and magna cum laude with an LLB in 1964. He was a Fulbright fellow in the Netherlands from 1964 to 1965, and upon his return to the United States, he was licensed to practice law by both the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the New York State Bar Association. In 1967, Mr. Roth was admitted to the practice in the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and in 1975, he was admitted to the Supreme Court of the United States.
In addition to his primary professional pursuits, Mr. Roth has contributed to numerous articles on hedge fund law, and has appeared on the CUNY TV show, “Beyond the Bottom Line.” As an active member of his community, he has served as a member on the board of directors for the Citizens Committee for New York City since 1999. As a testament to his success, Mr. Roth has been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the East and Who’s Who in the World.
